Atlantic Kitchen: A Taste of Seaweed

Seaweed – that’s right, the stuff you find at the bottom of the ocean – the newest superfood trend…

If you’re a foodie, or have an interest in health foods, you may have heard about the latest superfood craze to emerge – seaweed. Yes, the stuff you find at the bottom of the sea. Though it may seem a little hard to believe, seaweed is actually an incredibly nutritious and versatile plant. Packed with nutrients and anti-oxidants, seaweed has fantastic detoxifying properties and even aids weight loss.

Atlantic Kitchen, a UK-based food company, has tapped into this huge market and produces a range of seaweed products using the highest quality and tastiest seaweed varieties imported from the Atlantic shores of Ireland and France.

I was able to meet the founder, Ruth Dronfield, at a recent Bloggers Hangout event and had a taste of the products in their range including the seaweed soup bowls and seaweed spaghetti.

Amazed by just how delicious they were, I took home a Beetroot & Chickpea Bowl with Wakame Seaweed to have for lunch. It was an ideal autumn lunch, perfect served with some dark rye bread. The seaweed wasn’t overpowering and added a lovely spinach-like texture to the soup. Not only are the ingredients in Atlantic Kitchen’s bowls completely natural, but they are also gluten-free, wheat-free, dairy-free and totally vegan. Another bowl I tried in the range which was a particular favourite was the Spicy Fish of the Day Bowl – sodelicious and warming.

I would highly recommend seaweed, in particular Atlantic Kitchen’s range, for anyone looking to diversify their diet or try something new. I have a great recipe planned using Atlantic Kitchen’s seaweed spaghetti so keep an eye out!
