Achieve a summer glow with DCL Skincare
I am back with another skincare post and this time the spotlight is on Dermatologic Cosmetic Laboratories Skincare or DCL. Having tried two of their most highly-rated products, I have been blown away by the brand and think they’re the perfect summer glow products.
I first came across DCL on Catherine Hiron’s blog earlier this year (in case you don’t know, she’s a huge skincare guru!) and in several reviews on YouTube. The brand has consistently high reviews and I was keen to give them a try.
DCL is a US-based skincare company founded in 1980. Made up of teams of brand developers, scientists and microbiologists, the company specialises in advanced groundbreaking skincare. For a comparison, think of the likes of Alpha H or Deciem’s science-focussed brand NIOD. This does mean that DCL’s products are at the higher end of the price range but I can safely say the price is worth it. In the UK DCL is stocked at Cult Beauty and Space NK.
Multi-Action Penta Peel, £58
For about 3 months I have been using two products from DCL, the first of which is the Multi-Action Penta Peel. This acid peel is carried by exfoliating pads and with 50 pads in a pot, it works out at £1.16 a pad. The peel is made up of 5 acids: mandelic acid, lactic acid, phytic acid, hyaluronic acid and salicylic acid – together these acids are an incredibly effective solution. Mandelic, phytic and lactic acid help with skin renewal, making your skin softer and creating a more even skin tone. Hyaluronic acid moisturises and plumps the skin and salicylic acid has anti-bacterial properties which help to prevent breakouts and reduce blemishes. What swayed me the most with this purchase was that it was suitable for sensitive skin and did not contain glycolic acid – an acid I have found to be too harsh for my skin.
I have been using these pads as directed 3 times a week in the evening. I swipe the pad around my face thoroughly and leave on for around 30 minutes. I then follow up with a very light rinse and moisturise with shea butter. Since using these pads the transformation in my skin has been incredible. Stubborn acne scarring and hyperpigmentation that I have been battling with for close to a year has faded. I have also noticed my pores are visibly smaller and I have very little texture on my skin. I also have not broken out at all since using these (apart from the odd period spot) and as someone who has had acne-prone skin since the age of 14, this has been wonderful. DCL didn’t lie when they said it was multi-action!
The most noticeable effect of all is the glow this peel gives your skin. You notice it instantly after using the product and the next morning your skin feels refreshed and renewed. If there is any peel or exfoliating product I would recommend to anyone, it is this one.
C Scape High Potency Body Lotion, £45
The second product I have tried is the advanced C Scape High Potency Body Lotion. It is formulated with vitamin C to brighten and smooth the skin. You may remember that I am a big fan of vitamin C for facial skincare and I wanted to extend this to my regime for my body.
This body lotion is extremely moisturising; DCL states that it is ideal for people with extremely dry skin, psoriasis, keratosis pilaris prone skin or eczema and I can definitely see why. It instantly leaves your skin silky smooth and glowy whilst feeling genuinely hydrated. It’s also a light runny texture so doesn’t feel heavy or greasy on your skin.
I also had some dark patches on my legs which have improved significantly since using this lotion. The tone is also generally more even.
The only downside to this lotion is that is is quite expensive so I only use it a few times a week. However, this usage has been enough to see genuine differences.
Overall, I have been incredibly impressed by DCL as a brand and I will definitely be trying more products from the range. These two products have helped to achieve the glow I was aiming for this summer!
